One of our regular blog readers brought a new BSD related forum to my attention: daemonforums.org
It’s a new website without much activity yet, but what I’m curious about is, why create yet another BSD related forum? How is this one different from BSD Forums , BSD Support or BSD Nexus etc?
It would have been nice if the creator(s) explained why they’ve started yet another forum or what niche they’re aiming at.
Personally, I think we should co-operate more, recommend and improve what’s available already in the BSD world (be it operating systems, websites or forums - unless strong and valid reasons are there, obviously). United we’re stronger.

bsdforums.org has long been the highest traffic BSD-related forum. Over the last couple years the owner of that site (with all due respect to him personally) seems to be MIA. This has resulted in a glut of offensive and ridiculous spam on bsdforums.org.
A lot of folks tried repeatedly to contact the bsdforums.org site owner, but the attempts were ultimately in vain. daemonforums.org was created to become exactly what bsdforums.org once was.

It is different from BSDForums because it is not overrun by (porn) spam and that it has an active administrator (Several actually).
DaemonForums is a “fork” of BSDForums, started by people who realised that the situation at BSDForums was probably never going to be resolved.

Currently running Debian and wanted to learn/try BSD.
The only single reason is BSD has less distro and therefore is more common in a sense.
If FreeBSD is going the way of Linux of having more distro, package manager, forums and the like, it is a little :(

This is nonsense! The forum above is because of the massive spam in bsdforums.org and the administrator of bsdforums.org doesn’t like his ‘job’ anymore. Furthermore it’s impossible to have distros the Linux way, because we don’t use a kernel with a more or less complete userland by mere chance. So every system like DesktopBSD or PC-BSD is a 100% FreeBSD. While ‘learning’ $BSD, you’ll see it’s a completely different approach - it’s quality by design, not a mere UNIX-like hack, it’s a free UNIX-derivative.

We are co-operating in BSD-world, since about 30 years! But decentralized knowledge is the best you can do, it’s the first rule for real free information! And if you have a look into BSDnexus for example, then you will see almost the same people in bsdforums.org or the new forum mentioned above.
@ Oliver: I was more thinking of an OS like midnightBSD. As there are already PC-BSD and DesktopBSD, is there really need for a 3rd? And on the forums front, it would have been nice to have only 2 or 3 BSD forums where everybody goes to (apart from their own OS forums), but I must admit, I wasn’t aware of all those probs at bsdforums.org
